WFH Self-Care

Our WFH Self-Care classes borrow elements from a variety of movement and self-care practices, including Myofascial Release techniques, breathwork, self-massage, mindfulness and, of course, yoga.

In these relaxing, low-impact sessions, many of the exercises we do are floor-based and are ideal for practising while working from home. WFH Self-Care classes are unique to The Office Yoga Company. We developed them in 2020 specifically as a response to the demands of the then-newly remote working population. A yoga mat isn’t necessary if practising at home. Although, we do suggest that participants lay a towel or blanket to make reclined and kneeling poses more comfortable. We also encourage the use of cushions and a tennis ball to get the most out of the sessions.

What Are Myofascial Release Techniques?

Myofascial Release (MFR), also known as trigger point (TrP) therapy, is an accessible and intuitive self-care practice. MFR involves releasing tightness in our muscles caused by stiffness in the enveloping connective tissue (the fascia). It works by manually applying pressure using a massage or tennis ball, or parts of the body, to muscle knots. With the help of our body weight, the underlying tissue begins to release. The effects can be immediate, with practitioners experiencing restored range of motion and relief of muscle pain.

Our clients find that these self-care sessions are a great way to treat their workforce while they are under the unique pressures of working remotely (during a global pandemic, no less!). We recommend scheduling these at the end of the workday to aid with switching-off and creating a healthy divide between work and home life for best results.
